About this Project

O, Miami invites you to help give names to Miami’s full moons. The names we often use for the full moon do not reflect Miami, its people, or its environment. What does a “corn moon,” a “buck moon,” or a “sturgeon moon” mean to us? Let’s give each full moon its own identity rooted in the place we call home.

Moons for Miami is a community poetry and naming project that asks participants to imagine moon names inspired by Miami’s seasons, ecology, neighborhoods, weather, wildlife, culture, rhythms, and languages.

The result will be the first-ever O, Miami Full Moon Calendar. Thank you to everyone who submitted moon names.
